Default New Player Question

Hey everyone! I'm sure you get these questions all of the time, but I just wanted to make sure I'm off to the right track. I use to play a long time ago when Guild Wars first came out, but it's been so long that I've forgotten quite a bit. I'd like to eventually be able to play PvP, but I'm not sure on how I should get there. Should I make a role playing character first, then when he reaches 20, PvP with him? If I remember right, when you first play you're not eligible to use all of the available abilities, you have to unlock them. Is this still done by creating a PvE character of that class? Also, are you able to use that PvE character to PvP when he/she reaches 20?

Thank you very much everyone, sorry if this has been asked before!

yes you can pvp with a pve char, some people think its better to go ahead and create a pvp char too so you can change runes and insignias at no cost. you do unlock skills with a pve char, but really only in prophecies. in factions and nightfall, you only learn a handful of skills and have to buy the rest. so it all depends on whether you want to buy them with gold or balthazar faction.

1. PvP characters are created at level 20
2. PvE characters can participate in PvP. There are still low level arenas in some towns.
3. runes, skills and mods can be unlocked through PvE or through Balthazar Faction.

Check the wiki - F10 or Help on Menu or /wiki in chat for specific information.

Check guru's Gladiator's Arena section for PvP type-specific build information.

Welcome back to GW.

Welcome back!

PvP toons start off at lvl20, and you need to purchase skills, runes, weapon upgrades, ect with Balthazar faction. It can also be done by PvE'ing and identifying blue, purple, and gold items.

Yep, I say if you want to start getting into PvP, Start a PvP toon.
You can do some RA, visit wiki and get some builds, unlock runes and faction.
It is better than a pve because if you don't like that profession you made, you don't have to start a new pve char/delete runes, etc.

My advice Start a PvP Char.
If you need help with PvP feel free to contact me ingame on Beverian Hulk

Thank you very much for the help everyone! I'm going to take all of your advice and start PvPing and just purchase the skills with faction! Thanks again!
